    BUS PARK OF YEREVAN TO INCREASE BY 700-800 BUSES BY 2010

    YEREVAN, JANUARY 31, NOYAN TAPAN. This year it is envisaged to bring
    150 medium-capacity "Bogdan" buses and 20 trolleybuses to Yerevan. As
    Noyan Tapan correspondent was informed by Ashot Sahakian, the Head
    of the Transport Department of Yerevan Mayor's Office, thus, by the
    end of the year the number of the medium-capacity buses, which run
    in the capital, will be about 450 and the number of trolleybuses 65-70.

    In A. Sahakian's words, in 2008-2010 it is envisaged to replace
    the micro-buses by buses and to decrease the number of about 3200
    micro-buses, which run at present, up to 1500 during the coming three
    years for improving the sphere of public transport of Yerevan. And
    the bus park will be increased by 700-800 buses by 2010.

    Besides, according to the department head, 20 trolleybuses will be
    annually brought to Yerevan by 2011. Thus, the number of trolleybuses'
    routes will be increased. A. Sahakian said that repair of electric-feed
    nets will be implemented parallel with bringing trolleybuses. This
    year it is envisaged to repair the electric-feed nets of Mashtots
    and Grigor Lusavorich streets.

    Touching upon the stop pavilions, A. Sahakian said that in total 210
    stop pavilions were placed in the capital in 2006-2007. This year
    another 83 stop pavilions will be placed in Yerevan with the 137
    million drams (nearly 449 thousand USD) allocated from the state
    budget and in 2008 the placing work of the stop pavilions will be
    completely finished.

    A. Sahakian emphasized that this year new traffic lights will be
    placed on 27 crossroads of the capital with the 300 million drams
    allocated from the state budget. At the same time it was mentioned
    that at present negotiations are underway with the World Bank (WB)
    aimed at introducing new automated traffic light system in the capital.

    The department head also said that by the development program of the
    Yerevan underground this year it is envisaged to repair the escalators
    of the underground stations and the wagons with 1.7 billion drams
    allocated from the state budget.
