NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ADOPTS THE STATEMENT ON NAGORNO KARABAKH

With 96 pro and 3 con votes and 2 abstentions the National Assembly
today adopted the NA Statement on Nagorno Karabakh. Three members of
the Heritage faction voted against the Statement, the rest did not
participate in the voting.
In the Statement the National Assembly suggests the President and
the Government:
To be more initiative in Armenia's policy on the settlement of the
Nagorno Karabakh issue;
Intensify and expand the efforts of working out and conducing
arrangements directed at informing the international community about
the Nagorno Karabakh issue, involving the whole Armenian potential,
opportunities and means;
To work out the legal norms within the framework of international law
that will ensure more productive cooperation between the Republic
of Armenia and the Nagorno Karabakh Republic and will enable the
Republic of Armenia to act as the guarantor of NKR security and ensure
the full security and defense of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic in
case of military aggression or application of other violent means
by Azerbaijan;
Make every effort for the purpose of ensuring the effectiveness of the
negotiations to restore the full participation of NKR representatives
in the process as an internationally recognized party to the conflict;
Prepare alternative opportunities of the international recognition
of NKR independence that should be applied in case the negotiations
in the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group fail.
