GSP+ SYSTEM TO CONTRIBUTE TO A GROWTH OF ARMENIA'S EXPORTS, DEPUTY MINISTER OF ECONOMY SAYS

    NOYAN TAPAN
    JULY 31, 2009
    YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JULY 31, NOYAN TAPAN. Since 2008, the EU's GSP+ system - the
additional preferences to the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)
has allowed Armenia and a number of other countries to export about
6,400 types of commodity to the EU market at zero or considerably
reduced customs duties. RA Deputy Minister of Economy Vahe Danelian
stated this at the July 31 working meeting held within the framework
of the EU's Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument
Program. According to him, GPS+ gives reductions of customs duties
for such commodities as cigarettes (reductions of up to 52%), natural
    juices (30%), fruit (20%), vegetables (14%), fish products (20%),
and honey (17%). Thus the reductions will contribute to a growth of
    the country's exports.

The deputy minister said that the main purpose of the meeting was to
inform small and medium business reprsentatives about the GSP+.
