Analyst: MEPs confirm legitimacy of Azerbaijani territorial integrity

    Azerbaijan, Baku, May 21 / Trend S. Agayeva /

MEPs once again confirmed the legitimacy of Azerbaijani territorial
integrity and the absurdity of Armenian claims, Azerbaijani political
    analyst Fikret Sadikhov said.

Sadikhov said the adoption of a resolution calling on Armenia to
withdraw its troops from the occupied Azerbaijani territories is
    significant.

The MEPs who voted for the adoption of the resolution represent
leading European countries. The international community should
consider their opinion, Sadikhov told Trend.

"Of course, all this is happening not because of a great love toward
Azerbaijan. First of all, it is connected with the interests pursued
by the EU in our region. The EU needs a stable, secure region," the
    politician said.

Sadikhov said Azerbaijan is already armed with documents, from four
U.N. Security Council resolutions to a PACE resolution adopted in
2005, which recognized Armenia as an aggressor.

All these factors are important, but unfortunately, they have not been
    followed by actions, he said.

Sadikhov said Azerbaijani MPs and the Foreign Ministry should work
more actively to implement the European Parliament's decision.

The conflict situation in the region is unacceptable, the MEPs said.
They also expressed concern regarding increased military expenses in
recent years and called for the withdrawal of Armenian forces from all
    Azerbaijan's occupied territories.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been lasting since
1988 due to Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts - 20 percent of
Azerbaijan's territory are under occupation by the armed forces of
    Armenia.
