    A commemorative event dedicated to the 96th anniversary of the Armenian
    Genocide was held in New York's Times Square on May 1.

    Armenian Americans gathered in Times Square on Sunday to pay tribute
    to the 1.5 million Armenians who were annihilated by the Young Turk
    Government of the Ottoman Empire.

    After the performance of the Armenian and U.S. anthems, Archbishop
    Oshakan Choloyan, the Primate of the Eastern Diocese of the U.S. of
    the Great House of Cilicia, made an addressing speech. The participants
    of the event presented flowers to Genocide survivors Pirouz Galustian,
    Arshaluis Dadir and Charlotte Kechejian.

    The presentees warmly welcomed the speeches of Congressmen Robert
    Menendez and Frank Pallone, Senators Charles "Chuck" Schumer and
    Anthony Weiner, Richard Giragosian, Professor at the University of
    California, Dennis Papazian Professor at the University of Michigan
    and other who criticized Turkey's policy of genocide denial.

    The participants addressed letters to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo
    and Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
