    FOOD PRICES RISE 0.3 PERCENT IN ARMENIA IN OCTOBER

    YEREVAN, November 1. /ARKA/. Prices for foods in Armenia rose 0.3% in
    October 2013, compared with the previous month, mainly due to 0.5-4%
    increase in prices for meat and dairy products, confectionery, fishes,
    vegetables and potatoes, the National Statistical Service reports.

    At vegetables and potatoes market, a year-on-year growth was recorded
    at 7.2% in October 2013, and compared with September 2013, they leapt
    4% mostly due to increase in prices for beans (6.6%), greenery (11.2%),
    eggplants (26.7%), green pepper 33.4%, cucumbers (44%) and tomatoes
    (46.1%).

    In nine cities, prices for vegetables and potatoes rose 0.9-9.3%,
    on average, and in Yerevan a 4.5-percent month-on-month increase was
    recorded in October 2013.

    Prices at Armenia's fruit market climbed 9.5% in October 2013, compared
    with the same month a year earlier, but slipped 4.1%, compared with
    September 2013 thanks to decrease in prices for persimmons (48.8%),
    pears 16.6%, pomegranates (11.2%), walnuts (10.2%), grapes (7.8%)
    and lemons (4.2%).

    Apples were 1.6% cheaper in October 2013 than in September 2013,
    and melons were 3.3% cheaper.

    Instead, prices for bananas jumped 3.9%, for watermelons 10.1%,
    oranges 18.6%, strawberry 26.3%, plums 38.9% and peaches 42.8%.

    The average sugar price fell 15.8% in October 2013, compared with
    the same month a year before, and slid 1.3%, compared with the
    previous month.

    Prices for meat products rose 4.4%, compared with October 2012, and
    0.5%, compared with September 2013, mainly because of increase in
    prices for semi-smoked sausage (0.7%), canned meat (0.7%), chicken and
    cooked sausage (1%), smoked sausage (1.2%), sausages (2%), basturma
    (dried meat) and chicken legs (2.7%). Mutton, pork and beef prices
    dropped 3.1%, 0.6% and 0.2% respectively.

    Prices for dairy products rose 11.9% in October 2013, compared with
    the same month a year before, and 0.5%, compared with September 2013.

    Fishes and fish products in October 2013 became 6.3% more expensive
    than they were in October 2012 and 1.5% more expensive than in
    September 2013.

    Egg prices has climbed 33.5% since October 2012, but slid 1.2%,
    compared with September 2013. -0----
