Armenia's 'National Hero', military leader Andranik Ozanyan's monument
opened on May 28 in Sochi, Russia.
Russian authorities have ordered to removal of monument to avoid
Turkey's reaction.
The order for the removal of the monument for Andranik, who is known in
Turkey and Azerbaijan as 'Murderer of Turks', is considered as Russian
authorities' precaution against Turkey's rejection of cooperating
for the construction of the olimpic facilities in Sochi.
Monument to Andranik Ozanyan in Sochi was demounted at the demand of
local authorities. Armenian organizations of Russia, specifically the
Union of Armenians of Russia (UAR) have not taken measures to prevent
the monument demolition. The authorities explained their decision by
the fact that the monument's unveiling could lead to Turkey's refusal
to participate in the Olympic facilities construction.
The author of the monument is sculptor Marat Minasyan, Armenia based
News.am reported. Official opening was made on Saturday, on Armenia's
Republic day.
