ARMENIA REDUCES ELECTRICITY OUTPUT BY 7.2% IN 2009

Total production of electricity in Armenia in 2009 dropped by 7.2%
to 5.671 billion kilowatt hours, Armenia's National Statistics Agency
said in a report.
During last year, Armenian hydroelectric power plants (HPPs)
increased output by 12.4% to 2.045 billion kilowatt hours while heat
and electricity stations reduced production by 38.4% to 1.129 billion
kilowatt hours.
Armenian nuclear power plants (NPPs) increased electricity output by
1.3% to 2.494 billion kilowatt hours in 2009.
Wind-power electricity stations boosted production 130% to 4.3 million
kilowatt hours.
According to the reported, in 2009, Armenia produced 980.5 Gcal in
heat energy, a decrease of 38.5% from 2008.
Armenia's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Armen Movsisyan,
earlier said that the decrease in the country's electricity output
in 2009 had been the result of the economic crisis since industry
was forced to reduce electricity consumption.
