The UN Social Development Commission continues its activities in
    New York.

The Commission's 48th assembly is dedicated to the issue of social
integration, particularly issues concerning the disabled, youth, family
and aging. Armenia's delegation is also participating in the assembly.

In his speech on February 5, the RA representative touched upon the
2008-2021 Stable Development Program developed by the RA Government,
which mainly includes issues of overcoming poverty and development
of society, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of
    Foreign Affairs.

The Armenian delegation also informed the commission that the Ministry
of Labor and Social Affairs has started preparatory activities aimed at
giving a new evaluation of the disabled to make the transition to the
European model. The Ministry has analyzed the situation and evaluated
the needs. With support from international organizations, Armenia
has implemented the "Family" Institute's investigation after which
it has begun the procedure of developing the "Family" concept in 2009.

Along with other member-countries and in collaboration with
international organizations, Armenia reaffirmed its determination in
regard to the Copenhagen Social Summit and the UN millennium objectives
    for development.

The UN Social Development Commission is one of the functional
commissions within the Economic and Social Council of the UN general
body. Its agenda includes various topics concerning the social sphere.

Since 1995, one of the main functions of the Commission has been the
proclamation of the world social development summit in Copenhagen
and the implementation of propositions stated in the plan of actions.

Armenia was elected to the commission for 2009-2012.
