Baku. Viktoriya Dementyeva - APA. Special representative of the
European Union for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby had an exchange
of views with the Azerbaijani authorities on European-Azerbaijani
relations and how they can develop within the framework of the Eastern
Partnership. On the occasion of this visit, he met with President Ilham
Aliyev, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and other representatives
of the Azerbaijani government. He also met with representatives of the
Azerbaijani civil society. Additionally, the European Union Special
Representative paid a visit to the Qurdakhani detention facility,
where he met journalist Eynullah Fatullayev.

The Turkish-Armenian normalisation process and its implications for
Azerbaijan were also discussed. The European Union is supportive of the
normalisation process between Armenia and Turkey as a step towards a
more open and stable region and as an impetus for the resolution of
    other issues.

The European Union Special Representative reiterated the EU's support
for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh
    conflict.
