Former air force and navy chiefs detained in Turkey

    27.02.2010 15:09 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Turkish police Monday detained former air force and
navy chiefs, in connection with an alleged military plot against the
Islamist-rooted government. It's believed that the plan was approved
after the Justice and Development Party (AKP) had won the elections.
However, the lawyers' opinion on the situation is quite opposite.

A total of 100 officers, including retired ones, have been detained,
being suspected of participating in the alleged plot and 30 out of
    them are arrested.

The case has increased tensions between the military and the
government, which is led by the Islamist-rooted AKP.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed that
conspirators in an alleged plot to sow chaos and provoke a coup will
face justice. "No one is above law, no one has impunity," he told a
gathering of his Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The opposition announced serious government crisis, demanding early
    elections, Euronews reported.
