YEREVAN. - At the moment the negotiation process on Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict is at an intense stage, State Duma MP from the "United Russia"
party, political analyst Sergei Markov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the negotiation process has a double bottom. "The
formal and real planes of the peace process should be distinguished.

The formal aspect includes attempts to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict, but I think today attempts are made to prevent thawing of
the conflict," Markov emphasized. According to him, today there is
a greater likelihood of the conflict's escalation than its resolution.

According to Markov, today the parties' positions are too far apart.

"Baku is profoundly dissatisfied with the current situation and
believes its national interests are violated. Yerevan is dissatisfied
with current trends, aimed at changing the situation in favor of
Azerbaijan. The sides' dissatisfaction may lead to an outbreak of
the conflict." he noted. According to him, indirect evidence thereof
are fruitless efforts of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, aimed to
reconcile the parties and achieve breakthrough in the negotiations.
