JOHN HEFFERN CONVEYED TO TIGRAN SARGSYAN THE GRATITUDE OF US PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY OF STATE FOR SUPPORTING TURKEY

Today, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan received newly-appointed
US Ambassador John Heffern. Governmental press service told
Armenpress that welcoming the guest in the government, the Prime
Minister congratulated the ambassador on the appointment and wished
productive work. The head of the government highly assessed the level
of Armenian-American relations and expressed confidence that the
newly-appointed ambassador will be able to contribute to expansion and
development of the relations. The Prime Minister attached importance
to the work implemented by former US Ambassador Marie Jovanovitch
in the direction of development of Armenian-American relations. John
Heffern thanked for the reception and conveyed the gratitude of the
US President and Secretary of State for the support shown to Turkey
after the earthquake occurred in Van.
With the guest's request Tigran Sargsyan referred to the programs
implemented in Armenia with the US support, which the Prime Minister
highly appraised. The reforms conducted in Armenia with the support
of the USA were assessed as well. With the ambassador's request, the
Prime Minister presented the priorities of Armenia's foreign policy,
referred to Armenian-Turkish relations. Tigran Sargsyan noted that
the position of Armenia on the prospects of the bilateral relations
has not changed. The Prime Minister attached importance to formation
of civil society in our country and the efforts of the executive body
exerted toward consolidation of the middle class in that context,
he also presented the developments of Armenia's economy and the
measures taken by the government in the direction of elimination of
the consequences of the global financial and economic crisis.
