Presidential election in Nagorno-Karabakh was free but not fair,
says Vitally Balasanyan, candidate for president of Nagorno Karabakh
Republic, in his statement on the voting result. Balasanyan says that
during the presidential race and on the day of voting pressure was
exerted on voters and the administrative resource of the authorities
was used in favor of the incumbent president Bako Sahakyan. So,
Balasanyan recognizes the voting result with reservations. He is
sure that he received good vote - 32.5%. This result is a basis
for Balasanyan to create a new political force in future. "The
number of votes in my favor shows that the problems I raised in by
campaign are relevant. I am ready to fight for settlement of those
problems together with you. The voting result shows that one-third
of the population does not welcome the political course of the
current authorities and the country's leadership should revise it,"
Balasanyan said. By preliminary data, the incumbent president of the
Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakyan won the election. The NKR
CEC has received ballots from all the 273 polling stations located
in the country. By preliminary data, Bako Sahakyan received 47,085
votes, which is 66.7% of total. The second goes Vitaly Balasanyan,
non-party parliamentarian, national hero of NKR, with 22,966 votes or
32.5% of total. The third candidate for president Arkady Soghomonyan,
pro-rector of the Stepanakert branch of Armenia's Agrarian University,
received just 594 votes or 0,8% of total. The voter turnover was
72,833 people or 73.38% out of 99,190 registered voters.
