Political events of February 2012 make presidential election
    `technical' - expert

    January 04, 2013 | 12:51

In a conversation with Armenian News-NEWS.am, the head of the
Analytical Center on Globalization and Regional Cooperation, political
scientist Stepan Grigoryan said that the most important political
event in Armenia in 2012 was the parliamentary elections.

According to Grigoryan, the latest parliamentary elections, even with
a number of issues, have been better than the previous ones.

`All the six parties and political blocks, which had a chance to be in
Parliament, got the seats in the Parliament. All opposition parties
are now represented in the parliament. Another thing is that we all
know that there are serious flaws in the electoral system,' Grigoryan
    said.

The expert also noted that the year was a competition between two
major political parties - the ruling Republican Party and the
    Prosperous Armenia party.

`The struggle was not between the opposition and the government, but
between government and political power, which is part of the
authorities. However, the refusal of the Prosperous Armenia Party
leader Gagik Tsarukyan to participate in presidential elections, is a
major event that will make the upcoming presidential elections
    `technical',' Grigoryan concluded.
