NO RESIGNATION: PRIME MINISTER'S GUILT IS NOT PROVEN
The sacramental phrase "no resignation will follow" has been uttered.
Galust Sahakyan said yesterday that the prime minister will not resign
despite the offshore scandal and other issues. At the same time,
he justified the sale of the government's stake at the ARG to Russia
saying that it is impossible otherwise.
The Republicans who have been silent about the offshore story during
the whole week started speaking on Monday altogether. First, it was
stated that the prime minister will not resign, and let the general
prosecutor's office deal with the issue. A person cannot be accused
of something unless the guilt is proven.
Second, the Republicans say that the law does not ban the prime
minister and others to have offshore accounts, and the only issue
is that this account was not declared by the prime minister which is
not a legal but an ethical issue.
Yesterday, Republican Samvel Nikoyan said that the offshore
scandal pursues political aims because the prime minister's offshore
account was not discovered by journalists but someone gave them this
information. Samvel Nikoyan wonders who could have done it.
Who? First, Russia could benefit from the prime minister's replacement
or defamation, as well as the forces that would like to help Moscow
to come to power in Armenia. These forces are strong supporters of
closer ties with Russia and the Customs Union or they are just trying
to use allegationsto remove Tigran Sargsyan with the help of Moscow.
There is an opinion that the West needs a "more controllable" Tigran
Sargsyan and the information on the prime minister's offshore deals
comes from the West.
Anyway, Galust Sahakyan's statement that the prime minister will not
resign may mean one thing. Coming back to Yerevan from Strasburg,
Serzh Sargsyan told his party that he is not going to dismiss Tigran
Sargsyan, at least now.
Those who are trying to change Armenia's foreign political bias the
change of power will surely have a plan B. Actually, it will already
be plan M because a number of other plans have already failed. I
mean the gas price increase, blackmail regarding supply of weapons
to Azerbaijan and increase of fees for some Armenian experts. What
else does Russia stash?
