    by Ashot Safaryan

    ARMINFO
    Thursday, August 1, 15:43

Signing of an agreement by Armenia and Georgia with the European Union
on Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area will create a single economic
area for the two republics with all the positive consequences stemming
from it, a member of the parliament from the ruling Republican Party
of Armenia, the head of the parliamentary commission for financial and
budgetary affairs, Gagik Minasyan, said at today's press-conference.

He said that favorable conditions will be created for transit
of Armenian goods through the territory of Georgia. "We have good
relations with Iran, but Teheran still has disagreements with our key
trade partners in the person of the EU. Against such a background,
the Georgian direction is gaining special relevance", - Minasyan said.

He also added that the agreement will also give an opportunity to
Nagornyy Karabakh to be presented at the European arena, taking into
account the single economic field in which Armenia and the NKR have
    been functioning.

He thinks that Armenia needs big investments for full fulfill the
potential, which the agreement with the EU will give, and for the
true economic development of the country.

To note, according to Armenia's National Statistics Service, by the
end of the first half year 2013, the inflow of foreign investments
to the economy of Armenia, in the 5 year dynamics, reduced by more
than 40%. Asked by Arminfo about the reason of such a reduction,
Minasyan replied it was linked with difficulties in the world economy
in general. He also added the crisis in the European zone and the
overall uncertainty resulted in reduction of investments not only in
Armenia but other countries as well.
