Armenia does not stop EU and NATO cooperation - Security Council head

    February 01, 2014 | 15:57

YEREVAN. - Armenia does not at all stop its cooperation with the
European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

National Security Council (NSC) Secretary Arthur Baghdasaryan noted
the above-said at a press conference on Saturday.

He informed that, at the end of February, the NSC plans to discuss
with the EU the 2014-2015Action Plan, which envisions 160 events.

"Given the recent political developments, a variety of assessments are
made. But I would like to announce that we will continue to modernize
our state agencies, the legal system, the human rights institutions,
[and] the economic and social policy with Brussels," Baghdasaryan
    stated.

In addition, the EU's Taiex, Twinning, and Sigma projects will
continue in Armenia, and the 2014-2015 Armenia-NATO Action Plan will
    comprise 22 events.

"[But] all this does not conflict with our Customs Union and CSTO
[i.e., Collective Security Treaty Organization] programs," Arthur
    Baghdasaryan concluded.

Following the talks that were held on September 3, 2013 in Moscow
between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir
Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs
Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian
Economic Union. And the road map for Armenia's accession to the
Customs Union was recently introduced. Aside from Russia, Belarus and
Kazakhstan likewise are members in the Customs Union.
