TER-PETROSYAN HAS ALWAYS BEEN FOR ALLIANCE WITH RUSSIA - POLITICAL ENGINEER

    14:12 * 03.03.14

In an interview with Tert.am, Political engineer Karen Kocharyan
has commented on the speech Armenia's ex-president, leader of the
Armenian National Congress (ANC) party Levon Ter-Petrosyan made at
the ANC rally on March 1, particularly on his statement that Armenia's
accession to the Customs Union is an irreversible process.

According to Mr Kocharyan, Ter-Petrosyan has always been for an
    Armenian-Russian alliance.

As to the fact that Chairman of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP)
Gagik Tsarukyan was compared with Georgian Premier Bidzina Ivanishvili,
Mr Kocharyan said it is "political technology."

"As to the accession process being irreversible, thing is
irreversible. The point is that I may share his opinion that it is
irreversible now. The developments show Armenia must join the Customs
Union and no one can predict further processes. As to the ANC leader's
statement, I should say I appreciate Ter-Petrosyan's more realistic
view of the situation, in contrast to others. It must be due to his
experience that he does not make populistic statements."

Why did not he propose objecting to the decision in favor of the
    Customs Union?

It is a person who himself objects to something that is supposed
to propose objecting or opposing. If in recent year this man has
repeatedly stated that Armenia must be Russia's ally, is he going
to contradict himself by saying that Armenia must be allowed to sign
    agreements with Europe?

Is he largely for the official policy?

I think he is for, but he is against how it has been done. He is
for, which does not mean the ANC is the authorities. In any case,
he has for the past four or five years - expect for the last year -
    said he is not "against."

What is your opinion of Tert-Petrosyan's statement that Gagik Tsarukyan
    is inferior to Bidzina Ivanishvili?

I have said it is a rhetorical question. I can say Tsarukyan is not
at all inferior. Rather, he may even be superior to Iavishvili.

Ivanishvili has never had business in Georgia. He made his fortune in
Russia. He has nothing to lose in Georgia, in contrast to Tsarukyan,
who has numerous businesses in Armenia.

Secondly, Saakashvili was a liberal in terms of his activities rather
than in economic respects. Serzh Sargsyan is not so, with all the
ensuing consequences for Tsarukyan. I think Tsarukyan felt it when
he did not run for the presidency. Following this logic, I can put
a question: in what respects is Yanukovich inferior to Ivanishvili?

What does speaking of the PAP leader in such a manner in ANC members'
    presence mean?

This is a technology. Ask them and Gagik Tsarukyan. They are
    cooperating with each other.
