ARMENIA TOURIST MONUMENTS SHOULD INCREASE VILLAGERS' INCOMES - EXPERT

YEREVAN. - The tourist sites in Armenia need to increase the incomes
of the communities, including the rural communities.
ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites)/Armenia
organization director Gagik Gyurjyan stated the aforesaid at a press
conference on Wednesday.
Gyurjyan pointed to the Garni Temple--a first century Hellenic temple
near Garni village in Armenia--as an example of the distribution of
income from tourist visits.
Accordingly, the tour operators get money for the trip, the Ministry
of Culture gets revenue from the visits to the monuments, and the
traditional sweets and souvenir sales on location get livelier.
As per the expert, however, the distribution of income from tourist
visits must be made automatically, and not be decision-based.
