    Apr 20 2007

YEREVAN, APRIL 20, NOYAN TAPAN. Museum of prominent statesman and
politician Karen Demirchian opened on April 20 in Yerevan. As Deputy
Yerevan Mayor Kamo Areyan said at the solemn opening ceremony, the
opening of the museum is one of the events implemented on the occasion
of K. Demirchian's 75th birth anniversary. In the Deputy Mayor's words,
the goal of museum's creation is to sum up all materials related to
the biography of the renowned statesman, to make them accessible for
    today's and future generations.

As early as in 2001 January RA government had made a decision to
found that museum. The building in Yerevan's Ghazar Parpetsi street
provided for the museum was completely reconstructed with the funds
of the government, as well as Karen Demirchian Fund, the territory
near the museum was improved and the museum was replenished with
    necessary property and furniture.

"Well-to-do, well-off people having passed a hard historic way, but
having had rebirth - this was Karen's dream, his most important goal
and he spared nothing for fulfilment of that goal, even his life,"
Rima Demirchian, Director of Karen Demirchian Fund, said in her
speech. She thanked all those who took part in museum's founding,
the President, the former and the current Prime Ministers. In her
words, A. Margarian has a great contribution to the issue of museum's
creation and that state approach continues.

RA NA Speaker Tigran Torosian, Prime Minister Serge Sargsian, Minister
of Culture and Youth Affairs Hasmik Poghosian were present at the
solemn opening ceremony of Karen Demirchian museum.
