LAWYER ELMAR KARIMOV: RAMIL SAFAROV'S FAMILY HAS NOT APPEALED TO THE BAR FOR MY REPRESENTING THEM

"After Appeals Court upheld the decision on Ramil Safarov's life
sentence no appeal has been filed to the Supreme Court, since Ramil
Safarov's family has not appealed to the Bar for my representing
them. If they appeal to the Bar, we can again represent Ramil Safarov,"
Elmar Karimov, appointed lawyer for Ramil Safarov's family by the
Bar told APA.
The lawyer said that according to the contract he is to represent Ramil
Safarov's family only till the end of the process in Appeals Court.
"Ramil Safarov's family has not yet appealed to the Bar for my
continuing the process. This is not in my competence, but in the
competence of the Bar. Therefore, no concrete measures are taken about
Ramil Safarov's case and it is difficult to speak about any concrete
actions," he said.
Azerbaijani officer Ramil Safarov, accused of killing Armenian officer
Gurgen Markaryan in Hungary was sentenced to life imprisonment.
His lawyer Ikram Shirinov has recently been appointed judge of Nasimi
district court by president's order. He will take up his post soon.
