HIS HOLINESS ARAM I CHAIRS AN
    ECUMENICAL MEETING IN ANTELIAS

His Holiness Aram I chaired an ecumenical meeting regarding the Middle East
Council of Churches (MECC) on July 31. MECC General Secretary Georges Saleh,
the Syrian Orthodox Church's Metrpolitan to Lebanon Bishop Georges Saliba,
judge Fawzi Dagher, Habib Badr, Dr. Jean Salmanian and Dr. Selim Sahyouni
participated in the meeting held in Antelias.

The participants, senior officials in the MECC executive committee and its
various units, consulted His Holiness on a number of issues related to the
Council. Various issues were discussed, including inter-church life, the
Council's activities and administrative, structural and economic issues
related to the Council's ecumenical aid and service committee.

The participants expressed their concerns and proposals regarding these
issues and discussed the viewpoints of European and American churches, which
finance these activities. The Catholicos also explained his viewpoints and
proposals on these issues with a realistic approach.
