/PanARMENIAN.Net/ "If someone wants Kosovo to become a precedent, it
will become a precedent for him, for that person. I think many people
in Russia, including President Putin best of all understand Caucasus
and they do not want Kosovo to become a precedent for Caucasus. It
would be awful and for North Caucasus too," OSCE Minsk Group American
Co-Chair, US Deputy Assistant Secretary Matthew Bryza stated. "We
do not say it is forbidden, we say it is not necessary. It must
not happen but is not forbidden. I just do not see any logic here:
if one group of separatists gets independence, does it mean that all
separatist groups in the world will get independence and this will
continue till the end of the world? There is no logic here. These
are different situations. Otherwise why do we negotiate on Karabakh
if the problem can be resolved by the analogue of Kosovo? The events
that are happening in Kosovo must not influence on the settlement of
the Karabakh conflict, since these two conflicts are far away from
each other. That's why if we follow this logic and Kosovo does not
become a precedent for Karabakh, it means that no universal precedent
exists at all," Bryza underlined.
He also thinks Kosovo cannot serve as a precedent for conflicts in
Georgia. "The situation in Georgia is unique, like any every such
situation is unique at all. And we hope that the sides step-by-step
will reach a situation when South Ossetia will get autonomous status
within Georgia. This is our wish, our policy. At the same time I
do not assure that we shall have this variant, but we are seeking
for it. It is possible now," the American diplomat underscored,
"Vremya Novostei" reports.
