IF SERGE SARGSYAN, ALBERT BAZEYAN WILL ABSTAIN
On unification the Ramkavar Party, the National Rebirth and the
Dashink Party state their goal is not the presidential election.
Nevertheless, the society wants to know whom they are going to
support in the presidential election. On December 5 the reporters
asked this question to the leader of the National Rebirth Party
Albert Bazeyan, asking why Bazeyan did not join Levon Ter-Petrosyan
who had earlier called on all the forces for unification.
`Levon Ter-Petrosyan was not the first to call for unification. They
have been talking about it since spring, there was public demand, we
held discussions. The political forces met in different places,
remember Metelitsa, discussions were held with different
participants. Levon Ter-Petrosyan's said don't be ingenuous, the
problem is unification around the common candidate. However, he and
his supporters see only Levon Ter-Petrosyan as a common candidate.
Therefore, it happened so that different candidates were nominated.
And if a politician makes a statement, if he is a pragmatic person,
he should be able to bring into being his ideas. In other words, they
did not choose unification, they nominated Levon Ter-Petrosyan and
set forward stipulations - either you join Levon Ter-Petrosyan or we
think you are a traitor, venal, and so on,' Albert Bazeyan says.
Besides, he says they have disagreement with Levon Ter-Petrosyan,
namely on the settlement of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. `With
regard to the Artsakh issue I have always stated that our opinions
have never been alike, we had disagreement since 1997. He is staunch,
we should respect it, he is faithful to his beliefs. I would like to
ask him and his supporters to respect our principles and beliefs and
not to insult each other. There are other questions we can answer,
but since everything is manipulated in this stage, we are not
speaking about some things,' Albert Bazeyan says.
As to whom the united Ramkavar Party of Armenia, Dashink and National
Rebirth are going to support, Bazeyan says it is a matter of future
which will be solved in the conference of the three parties. The
reporters asked what Albert Bazeyan would do if the Ramkavar Party
and the Dashink Party decided to support Serge Sargsyan. `Dashink,
Ramkavar, and we are already one party, and you should not
distinguish them. They will not make a decision without us. They will
discuss, justify, and I will express my opinion. If such a decision
is made, most probably I will abstain,' Albert Bazeyan says. Then the
reporters asked him if theoretically it is possible that he will
support Serge Sargsyan, Bazeyan said theoretically everything is
possible, but it depends on the election and the campaign.
