NINE PERSONS SUBMIT DOCUMENTS TO CEC FOR NOMINATION OF THEIR CANDIDATURES FOR PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The acceptance of documents of
candidates' nomination for the February 19, 2008 presidential elections
ended at 18:00, December 6, in accordance with the requirement of
the RA Electoral Code. As CEC Chairman Garegin Azarain said at the
CEC sitting, nine citizens have submitted documents for nomination
of their candidatures, two out of which, first RA President Levon
Ter-Petrosian and former Adviser to NKR President Arman Melikian by the
self-nomination order. The other seven candidates have been nominated
by their parties: Artashes Geghamian (National Unity), Serge Sargsian
(Republican Party of Armenia), Vazgen Manukian (National Democratic
Union), Tigran Karapetian (People's Party), Vahan Hovhannisian
(ARFD), Artur Baghdasarian (Orinats Yerkir), and Aram Haroutiunian
(National Consent).
According to the Electoral Code, candidates' registration should be
done from December 31 to January 20.
