ARMENIAN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION IN 2007 FALSIFIED - POLL

    Aravot, Armenia
    Dec 11 2007

Text of an unattributed report by Armenian newspaper Aravot on
11 December headlined "The Gallup also said that the election was
    falsified."

The deputy chairman of the [ruling] Republican Party of Armenia, Galust
Sahakyan, has recently said in the National Press Club that the results
of the last opinion poll conducted by the Gallup [organization],
according to which top percentage- 29 per cent of the people surveyed -
were willing to vote for Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan, are
natural as their results are predetermined also by the parliamentary
election [in which the party gained the majority of MP seats].

Sahakyan, however, disregards one important fact: that 68 per cent
of the people, surveyed in an opinion poll, conducted by the same
Gallup in July this year, said no to the question "Do you believe that
the parliamentary election in 2007 was free and just'?", and in the
last opinion poll, conducted on 27 October - 3 November, 63 per cent
[of the people surveyed] said those were neither free nor just.
