Professors Calling On TV Channels For Balanced and Unbiased
    Information

    by Vahagn Hovakimyan

All political forces acting in Armenia, including the opposition,
agree on one issue: the quality of the forthcoming presidential
election on 19February 2008 will be of crucial importance for the
future of the country. One of the important features of free and just
elections is availability of information. For the overwhelming
majority of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia the print media
are not affordable for some reasons and the main source of
information about the domestic political developments is TV. The mass
media, TV channels in general ,and Public Television channel in
particular, must broadcast to the public complete, comprehensive,
balanced and unbiased information. We strongly believe that the
overwhelming majority of TV channels, most notably the Public
Television, fail to comply with this.

We, the undersigned, express our concern and resentment in connection
    with the situation.

We call on the TV channels in question, and in particular on the
Public TV, not to forget their obligations to the public and to put a
stop to the policy of information blockade of the general population.
