State commission to organize the arrangements in the framework of the
20th anniversary of earthquake held its 1st sitting

The first sitting of the state commission to organize the arrangements
dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the devastating earthquake in
Spitak was held at RA Government. The sitting was presided over by RA
Prime Minister Serge Sargsyan. The Prime Minister first presented the
main goals of the commission's activity, noting that according to the
presidential decree, the activity of the commission will be targeted at
confirming the program of events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of
the earthquake by 15 January, 2008.
Mr. Sargsyan also noted that upon completion of the work, i.e. at the
end of 2008, the commission will have to sum up the work done and not
done in the direction of eliminating the consequences of the disaster.
He said this is important for the simple reason that although a great
work has been done, there are still many issues about which we must
speak publicly, and find solutions to the existing problems. `These
problems must not be solved exceptionally by the state. We are ready to
encourage the private sector as wee,' said the Prime minister,
stressing the importance of the development of effective state-private
cooperation.
Members of the commission and MPs submitted a number of suggestions
which will be thoroughly discussed before confirmation.
