"WHY SHOULD SHEIKHS ATTEND THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY?"

"The talks over the Karabakh conflict are conducted with a wrong
terminology. No considerable progress will be made unless we call a
spade a spade," political scientist Alexander Manassian says.

"We are used to repeating that the struggle is held to restore NKR
    residents' right to self-determination.

But the right to self-determination was achieved in 1920 and NKR was
granted sovereignty by the Communist Party bureau. Today we must care
for another important question. We must make them respect NKR's right
    to self-determination."

Manassian says Armenia continues stumbling in the same place. "Once we
called Turks Azerbaijanis, while now we call them Azeris. Why don't
political and public figures realise where and in what circumstances
    to use the word?"

The political scientist finds the recent discussions over
Armenian-Turkish relations inadequate. "The hearings were held in
the parliament but they were far from being parliamentary. MPs took
no interest in the subject matter. "

On the whole, Manassian doesn't think that outsiders should participate
at the discussion of vital issues.

"Once sheikhs attended the parliamentary discussions over the Karabakh
conflict. That is no concern of theirs. Experts should be invited to
    consider such serious issues."
