ARMENIA IMPLEMENTED IN 2006 ACTIVE COOPERATION WITH U.S.

YEREVAN, JANUARY 9. NOYAN TAPAN. "Armenia implemented in 2006 active
cooperation with the United States in the political, commercial and
economic, military and other spheres." RA Foreign Minister Vartan
Oskanian stated about it at the January 9 press conference. In his
words, in 2006 the direct assistance of America to Armenia made 76
mln U.S. dollars, and to Nagorno Karabakh made 3 mln dollars. In the
issue of the military assistance to Armenia and Azerbaijan, the parity
principle was again kept: 3.5 mln U.S. dollars to each of them.
In V.Oskanian's words, the agreement signed in March in Washington with
the Millennium Challenge corporation was one of the most important
events of the previous year. According to it, 236 mln U.S. dollars
will be allocated to Armenia for implementation of the programs aimed
to stimulation of economic growth and reduction of poverty in rural
settlements during the coming five years. It was mentioned that the
U.S. Government gave the RA Government in December, 2006, the first
part of the money: 1.4 mln U.S. dollars.
The process of organizing by the U.S. courses and seminars being
held for re-training of the security bodies staff of Armenia was also
continued during 2006.
