MOTHER SEE OF HOLY ETCHMIADZIN UPSET ABOUT THE WORDS OF AZERI CLERGYMAN

Yerevan, January 15. ArmInfo. Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is
upset about the words of Azerbaijani clergyman Sheikulislam Haji
Allahshukur Pashazade. Spiritual leader of Azerbaijan made several
statements against Armenia, Armenians and Armenian Apostolic Church
(AAC) in his interview with www.day.az dated Jan. 11, 2007. He accused
AAC of being permissive in regard of "Grigorian terrorism and ethnical
    extermination of Azerbaijanis by Armenians."

Press Secretary of the Catholicos of All Armenians, Head of press
service of the Chancellery of the AAC, Priest Vahram Melikyan told
ArmInfo today that the Supreme Patriarchs of AAC - Vazken the 1st,
and Karekin the 2nd, more than ten times had meetings with Azeri
spiritual leaders after Karabakh conflict was set out in 1988.

Armenian Patriarchs called sides to conflict to be calm and balanced.

Bilateral documents were signed on importance of the mission
of spiritual leaders in establishment of tolerance and mutual
    understanding.

Priest V. Melikyan said that lately Sheikulislam Haji Allahshukur
Pashazade makes militarist statements, much in common to extremist
moods, that contradict to peace- oriented meetings of spiritual
    leaders of the two states.

    V. Melikyan said that in August 2006 the Azeri leader attempted calls
for jihad and this provoke worries in AAC. The Mother See of Holy
Etchmiadzin sent Supreme Mufti a letter that was left not replied.

"However, AAC, being loyal to the past meetings of Armenian and Azeri
spiritual leaders, will continue to work for peaceful resolution of
Nagorno Karabakh conflict", pointed out Press Secretary of AAC.
