[Presenter] There have been women kamikazes in religious sects
illegally operating in Ganca. The chief of the National Security
Ministry's Ganca department, Vuqar Aliyev, has said that some terrorist
acts which these organizations wanted to carry out had been thwarted.

Some religious bodies that are in opposition to Azerbaijani statehood
exist in Ganca. The head of the State Committee for Work with Religious
Structures, Hidayat Orucov, said that a battle is being waged in
earnest to prevent the spread of these sects that operate secretly.
[Orucov speaking to reporters] Unfortunately, specific groups express
anti-Azerbaijani, anti-state and openly antagonistic opinions which
completely run counter to the Azerbaijani people's will and national
interests. They are conducting a propaganda campaign in this sphere.
They exist. They are small groups. Unfortunately, they exist.
[Correspondent] Orucov said that Azerbaijan is not opposed to any sect.
But these sects should not disturb public and political stability and
should be involved in stimulating relations between religion and the
state.
The chief of the Ganca city department of the National Security
Ministry, Vuqar Aliyev, said that some members of the radical sects had
wanted to commit terrorist acts. He added that there had been women
kamikazes among them. He stressed that all their activities were nipped
in the bud.
[Aliyev, speaking at the meeting] They started to operate here under
the guise of mainly humanitarian, non-governmental and charity
organizations. They have already built their social base over recent
years. To be frank, we learnt about terrorist acts and provocations by
members of such sects in Azerbaijan at the planning stage and prevented
them on time.
[Correspondent] The head of the Ganca city executive authorities, Eldar
Azizov, said that the most dangerous factors were Jehovah's Witnesses
illegally operating in the city and their defeatist campaign over the
Nagornyy Karabakh settlement. The head of the Board of Muslims of the
Caucasus, Allahsukur Pasazada, put forward a proposal on combating
illegal religious sects. The Institute of Theology should have a branch
in Ganca and the Board of Muslims of the Caucasus and the State
Committee for Work with Religious Structures should work jointly on
this issue.
