JULY 10 COURT HEARING OF CASE FILED AGAINST JIRAYR SEFILIAN DOES NOT TAKE PLACE

    Jul 10, 2007

YEREVAN, JULY 10, NOAYN TAPAN. A great number of politicians and
non-governmental figures, as well as intellectuals, came to take
part in the July 10 court hearing of the case filed against Jirayr
Sefilian, the coordinator of the non-governmental civil initiative
"In defence of the liberated territories", and others, in order
to congratulate Jirayr Sefilian on the occasion of his 40 years'
anniversary. The representatives of the society met Mnatsakan
Martirosian, the presiding judge of this case, with exclamations,
such as "Freedom", "Shame on you", and "Happy Birthday". The court
made a decision to force them out of the court hall and continue the
court hearing only with the participation of journalists. However,
the representatives of the society did not leave the court hall.

According to Academician Rafayel Ghazarian, with these cases filed
against Jirayr Sefilian, "Royal Armenia", and Alexandre Arzumanian,
the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, they are trying to annihilate
the resisting type of Armenians, who survived even under the dangerous
circumstances of physical annihilation in 1915. The Academician
mentioned that he has made more severe statements, however, he has
not been detained. According to Rafayel Ghazarian, he is ready and
voluntary to serve an imprisonment, as he did under the circumstances
of the detention of the representatives of the "Karabakh" committee.

The court declared that since the court decision concerning the
non-governmental representatives, who were to leave the court hall, was
not followed, therefore, the court hearing is postponed until July 11.
