ZHARANGUTIUN HOPES THAT OPPOSITION FORCES WILL SUPPORT RAFFI HOVANNISIAN IN ELECTIONS TO BE HELD AT ELECTORAL DISTRICT N 15

YEREVAN, JULY 11, NOYAN TAPAN. Stepan Safarian, the Secretary
of the Zharangutiun parliamentary faction, at the July 11 press
conference stated that currently the Zharangutiun (Heritage) party
along with parliamentary activity is also implementing efficient
extra-parliamentary political activity.
It was mentioned that the party is taking part in consultations
among opposition forces, and one of the issues discussed during
these consultations regards Zharangutiun's leader Raffi Hovannisian's
running for the elections by majoritarian system to be held at the
electoral district N 15. Vardan Khachatrian, the party's Political
Secretary, expressed the hope that the other opposition forces will
support R. Hovannisian. Meanwhile, he said that "executive links are
already being used" at the electoral district, in particular, the
respective instructions have been given to village heads and other
officials. Nevertheless, V. Khachatrian expects that the party's work
at the electoral district will be efficient. "It is important that
the people has great expectations from these elections, as they will
be proceeding on real alternative basis," he said.
As regards the 2008 presidential elections, the participants of the
press conference stated that Zharangutiun is for nomination of a
common opposition candidate.
