    PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN NKR ON JULY 19

    The presidential election, being the first after adoption of the
    Constitution, will be held in Nagorno Karabakh on July 19.

    As ArmInfo's special correspondent in Stepanakert reports,
    8 territorial election committees, 276 polling stations have
    been formed in NKR territory and 1 in Yerevan, in the Permanent
    representation of NKR in RA, for the citizens of Nagorno Karabakh
    being in Armenia the election day. The voters' lists comprise count
    over 91,000 people. "Considering the next presidential election in NKR
    an important stage of building and development of the state system,
    strengthening of democracy, the Central Election Committee carried
    out measures to prepare and hold the presidential election openly",
    chairman of NKR CEC Sergey Nasibyan said. Arrival of international
    observers from Russia, Ukraine, France, Serbia, Macedonia, Italy,
    Czech , Germany, Greece, USA, Belgium, Abkhazia, South Ossetia,
    Transdniestria, etc. is expected. A press-center has been opened for
    journalists to assure publicity of the election committees' activity,
    work with the local and foreign observers, journalists and organize
    press-conferences.

    According to the Constitution, a candidate, who gathered more than
    half of the electors' votes, is elected the republic's president. If
    there are more than two candidates nominated and they do not gather
    over half of votes, the second round of elections is carried out on
    the fourteenth day after voting.

    Those two candidates, who gather majority of votes, participate in
    the second round of the presidential election.

    To recall, the presidential contenders are: Armen Abgaryan, Vanya
    Avanesyan, Masis Mailyan, Hrant Melkumyan, Bako Sahakyan. All the
    candidates, except the leader of NKR Communist party, have been
    nominated y the civil initiative.
