ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTER ENDS GEORGIAN VISIT, WELCOMES FOREIGN DIPLOMATS IN ARMENIAN LORI

    ARMENPRESS
    Jul 30, 2007

YEREVAN, JULY 30, ARMENPRESS: After wrapping up a working visit to
Georgia on July 28 and on his way back home from Georgia's resort
town of Batumi, where he discussed opening of Armenian consulate,
foreign minister Vartan Oskanian visited the predominantly Armenian
populated region of Javakheti in southern Georgia to meet with its
    leadership and Armenian activists.

His first stop was in the town of Akhaltsikhe, where Oskanian visited
the Armenian Holy Cross Church and then met with Armenian members
of the Georgian parliament elected from this region. The meeting was
also attended by prominent local Armenians.

Armenian foreign ministry said during the meeting Oskanian spoke at
length about Armenia's foreign policy priorities, Armenian-Georgian
relationships, about upcoming joint Armenian-Georgian projects and
also took questions from the audience.

In the second half of the day Oskanian met with Georgia-stationed
foreign diplomats and heads of international organizations in the
Armenian Lori province. The visit was initiated by Armenian ambassador
to Georgia, Hrachya Silvanian, to give diplomats an opportunity to
see Armenian region's historical monuments and culture legacy, as
well as to see the industrial potential of local enterprises.

The diplomats, accompanied by Lori province governor Aram Kocharian and
heads of the Georgian and Gugarats dioceses of the Armenian Church,
visited Haghpat and Sanahin monasteries, Alaverdi copper smelter and
    some other sites.
