An initiative group organized a picket with "Free Alik", "Free
Arzumanyan" and other posters for Alexander Arzumanyan's protection
in front of the RA Government Building today. The former Minister
of Foreign Affairs was accused in "money laundering" and detained on
8 May.
The police guarding the building did not allow the members of
initiative group to bring the posters closer to the entrance of the
building. Karapet Rubinyan, member of the "Civil Intolerance Movement"
stated that their picket was not a rally or a gathering and it was
not aimed at harming anyone or anything.
"We have gathered to look into the eyes of Mr Prime Minister and
to hand over a petition singed by a number of political actors",
announced Karapet Rubinyan.
The organizers of the action decided to wait for the Prime Minister's
respond for 20 minutes and then only to leave. In 5-10 minutes Edgar
Gevorgyan, Head of the RA Government staff, came out and promised to
deliver their claim to the Prime Minister. In a couple of minutes
he returned and said that the Prime Minister would receive only
Arzumanyan's wife Melissa Brown "But in a couple of days, when he is
free". Melissa Brown hopes that Mr Sargsyan will receive her and she
will ask him to release her husband. "I will present him the letters
addressed to various bodies", she added.
Karapet Rubinyan gave the petition to Edgar Gevorgyan.
The petition is also uploaded on arzumanyan.
