YEREVAN, JUNE 5, NOYAN TAPAN. In Armenia, 7-15% of children and
youth suffer from serious mental problems, and their parents very
often do not turn to specialists for help as they avoid being
"labelled." Introducing these data, Yeghia Marukian, Head of Infant
Psychiatrist and Psychologist Association, added that though few infant
suicides are recorded in Armenia, no research has been conducted on
    the causes.

    Y. Marukian informed that currently, there is no culture of turning
to a psychologist or psychiatrist yet in Armenia.

A reforming project is being carried out in the sphere of infant mental
health maintenance jointly with the World Psychological Initiative
organization, within the framework of which a concept paper on
Amendments of Infant Youth Mental Health Sphere in Armenia has already
been developed. In Y. Marukian's words, the aim of the concept is
to create a network of infant mental health services in Armenia and
deepen the cooperation between public and state institutions.
