RA DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER VISITS URUGUAY ON WORKING VISIT

MONTEVIDEO, JUNE 5, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Deputy Foreign Minister Arman
Kirakosian was in Uruguay within the framework of May 31 - June 2
working visit to the Latin American region.
Bilateral political consultations between delegations representing
Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Uruguay started on May 31. As Noyan
Tapan was informed from RA Foreign Ministry Press and Information
Department, Deputy Foreign Minister Belela Herrera, heads of the
respective departments of the Foreign Ministry represented the side
of Uruguay.
The process of fulfilment of signed bilateral agreements, as well
as the possibility to extend the current legal-contractual field was
discussed. In particular, the sides considered it expedient to start
preparing draft agreements on cooperation in scientific-cultural,
educational, tourism spheres for the purpose of signing them quickly.
The same day A. Kirakosian and RA Ambassador Vladimir Karmirshalian
accompanying him met with representatives of communal structures
of Uruguay.
The same day in the morning the Armenian delegation was received by
Foreign Minister of Uruguay Reinaldo Gargano. A wide range of issues
of bilateral cooperation, issues relating to multi-lateral cooperation
were discussed, the further tasks were outlined. Mr Kirakosian conveyed
RA Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian's invitation to his counterpart
of Uruguay to pay an official visit to Armenia in the current year.
RA Deputy Foreign Minister's mission to Uruguay was concluded by the
meeting with Vice-President of Uruguay, National Assembly Chairman
Rodolfo Nin Novoa. He highly estimated traditional friendly contacts
between the two peoples, stressed the important role of Armenian
community of Uruguay in country's political, economic and cultural
life. The sides agreed that in difference to growing development of
the political dialogue, bilateral trade and economic cooperation is
in unsatisfactory condition.
A. Kirakosian gave assurance that current bilateral consultations
will give a new spirit to cooperation between the two countries,
including in trade and economic sphere.
