OSCE MG Co-Chairs to Meet with Arkady Ghukasian in Yerevan

Today, Yuri Merzliakov, Bernard Fassier and Matthew Bryza, OSCE
Minsk group Co-Chairs, will arrive in Yerevan. They are aimed to
continue the consultation process for the preparation of the coming
Kocharian-Aliyev meeting. It's worth mentioning that in the context
of the recent previous regional visits of the OSCE MG Co-Chairmen,
they made quite an optimistic statement, yesterday.

In particular, "Trend" agency informed that French Co-Chair Bernard
Fassier stated that the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict
doesn't depend on the decision of the states in chair of OSCE. He
emphasized that the settlement of the conflict depends on the political
will of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Moreover, the
Co-Chairs are ready to spare no efforts, but they want the presidents
    to come to an agreement.

According to Fassier, in order to achieve the settlement the leadership
of both countries should prepare their nations for mutual concessions
and peace. "One can't prepare people for peace, speaking of war only,"
    Bernard Fassier said.

American Co-chair Bryza added that he wouldn't deal with this issue,
if he thought the settlement is unreachable. "I believe, we can
expect that till the end of this year the agreement based on the
basic settlement principles may be achieved between the sides in
conflict. I don't waste words. It's quite possible that the meeting
in St. Petersbourg will greatly contribute to the settlement of the
issue," Bryza stated. It's worth mentioning that Bryza makes quite
strange statements, in particular, he said that the recent statement
by Aliyev is another step for achieving the agreement. At the same
time, he added that he expects the same position from RA President
    Robert Kocharian.

Matthew Bryza also shared the opinion of Spanish Foreign Minister
Miguel Angel Moratinus, OSCE Chairman-in Office, who said that
the sides have approached very close to the settlement of the
conflict. Bryza added that the coming meeting in St. Petersbourg will
show how close the sides in conflict are to the settlement.

It's worth mentioning that according to "Day.az," Bryza said that as
OSCE Co-Chairs they had already pointed out the scheme of the basic
principles for the settlement a year ago. In particular, he said that
the armed forces will leave the area, an open corridor will appear,
while the status of the Nagorno Karabakh will be defined through a
referendum. He added that that will be good if the co-chairs come
to an agreement about these principles in the summer, but they will
still need to negotiate for the formation of the agreement.

In his turn, Russian Co-Chair Youri Merzliakov said that the probable
agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan could satisfy the sides in
conflict for 50 %. Merzliakov said that the OSCE Minsk group could
already figure out the probable agreement.
