ARMEN AGHAYAN: ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES WILL MEET WITH PEOPLE'S COUNTERACTION IN CASE OF TURNING THE CURRENT WRONG COURSE OF KARABAKH NEGOTIATIONS INTO PRACTICAL STEPS

    Jun 07 2007

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, NOYAN TAPAN. On June 7 - the day of arrival of
the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Armenia, the "Union of Armenian
Volunteers" social initiative along with several other NGOs organized
a procession of protest to the OSCE Armenia Office, the RA Ministry
of Foreign Affairs and the Armenian government. During a briefing
prior to the procession, secretary of "Union of Armenian Volunteers"
Armen Agahayan told reporters that they want to submit memoranda with
warning about the current dangers in Karabakh negotiations to the above
mentioned bodies. According to A. Aghayan, these dangers are related
to the information about the abendonment of 7 liberated regions and the
withdrawal of Armenian troops from these territories - this information
has never been properly refuted by the Armenian authorities.

    A. Aghayan said that the procession participants do not put forward any
demand in their memoranda. "We just want to warn that the negotiations
are proceeding in the wrong direction, and if you try to turn this
into practical steps, you will meet with violent counteraction of
the Armenian people," A. Aghayan explained.

Film maker Tigran Khzmaliam also participated in the procession,
he came to express his solidarity with protesters. During a talk
with reporters, he noted that "the fact that hero of the liberation
struggle Zhirayr Sefilian is in prison shows that something is wrong
in our country." He subscribed to the protesters' opinion about the
wrong course of the current Karabakh negotiations.
