President of Russia about Kosovo: the rules applied must be universal

Our position on Kosovo is based on the international law and the
resolutions of the UN Security Council
supporting the territorial integrity of states. We proceed from the
Resolution N01244 that exactly says that Kosovo is an integral part of
Serbia, said President of Russia Vladimir Putin at a press conference
after the meeting of G8 heads of state and government.
We think it wrong and immoral settling the problem without agreement of
the parties involved, V. Putin said. "If all of us arrive at a
conclusion that the principle of a nation's right to self-
determination is more important in the current international situation
than the territorial integrity of a state, we must apply this principle
to all the regions in the world, and not only where one of our partners
would like to do. In this case, both the peoples residing in the
post-Yugoslavia area and the small peoples, residing in the post-Soviet
area, including in the Caucasus, must take advantage of their right to
self-determination," the president said.
"No one can show a single difference to us. So, the rules applied must
be universal," Vladimir Putin aid.
