  • NCC News: Ecumenical event in July promises national snapshot

(NCC News) Media advisory - Ecumenical event in July promises national
    snapshot

New York City, June 20, 2007--Nearly 400 Christians will travel next month
to Oberlin College in Ohio to take stock of the Christian ecumenical
    movement in North America.

Roman Catholic, Pentecostal, Orthodox, Protestant, Evangelical, Anglican,
and many others will gather for "On Being Christian Together," the 50th
anniversary of the first meeting of the Faith and Order Commission of the
National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA. That first event was
    also held at Oberlin College.

Theologians and religious leaders will assess the previous 50 years of the
ecumenical movement in the United States as they think strategically about
the future of ecumenism in the 21st century along. Participating in the
discussion will be nearly 100 young theology students who will attend this
    historic event.

The event takes place July 19-23, 2007. A full program may be found at
    http://www.ncccusa.org/faithandorder/oberlin200 7/program.html and a list of
participating organizations and denominations appears below.

News media wishing to cover this event must apply for credentials.

The NCC is the ecumenical voice of 35 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican,
historic African American and traditional peace churches. These NCC member
communions have 44 million faithful members in 105,000 congregations in all
    50 states.
