ANKARA, JUNE 25, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. "The chances of
the adoption of U.S. Congress Resolution 106, classing the crime,
committed against 1.5 million Armenians by the Ottoman Empire during
the World War I, as a "Genocide", are quickly growing after the
necessary number of the supporters of the resolution, which is 218,
has already reached 202 due to the dissemination efforts of the
pro-Armenian groups in the last few days. This is a record indice,
which means that the overwhelming majority of the House is already
supporting the resolution," the Turkish famous journal "Turkish Daily
    News" writes.

Turkish officials, including Abdullah Gul, the Minister of Foreign
Affairs, have been paying visits to Washington since February 2007,
implementing lobbying against U.S. Congress resolution on the Armenian
Genocide. "Gul warned the U.S. administration that in case Congress
ratifies the resolution, Turkish-American relations will become worse,"
    the "Turkish Daily News" continues.

According to this newspaper, Turkish officials and lobbyists are trying
to prevent legislators from supporting the bill and are forcing some
members of the House of Representatives to withdraw their signatures,
but all these efforts are failing, the bright proof of which is the
number of the supporters that is 202. "Another similar resolution
is submitted to the U.S. Senate, which is supported by 31 out of
100 Senators. However, the efforts of the Armenian lobbysts are
concentrated on the resolution in the House of Representatives: Nancy
Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, has promised that the resolution
will be adopted," Turkish diplomats comment this way.
