    Arminfo
    27 Feb 07

Yerevan, 27 February: The election bloc Impeachment has become the
first political force to apply to the Central Electoral Commission
[CEC] of Armenia to participate in the forthcoming parliamentary
election scheduled for 12 May 2007, CEC member Hamlet Abrahamyan has
told Arminfo. He said Impeachment's application is the only one at
    this point.

The bloc Impeachment comprises the Democratic Fatherland Party
(leader Petros Makeyan) and the Conservative Party (leader Mikayel
    Hayrapetyan).

According to a decision passed by the CEC on 1 February 2007, political
parties and blocs, as well as candidates under the first-past-the-post
system, have to submit their applications to participate in the 12
May 2007 parliamentary election to the CEC and regional [electoral]
commissions by 1800 [1400 gmt] 3 March 2007. Party lists should
include a minimum of 15 per cent of women. Political parties and blocs,
as well as initiative groups of at least 50 people have the right to
nominate candidates under the first-past-the-post system. The required
documents for registering parties, blocs and candidates under the
first-past-the-post system should be submitted to the CEC by 1800
[1400 gmt] 28 March. The CEC and regional commissions will register
party lists and candidates on 2-7 April.

Officially, the election campaign will start on 8 April and will last
through 10 May. Voting will be held on 12 May between 0800 and 2000
    local time.
