YEREVAN, MARCH 22, NOYAN TAPAN. Bargavach Hayastan Party's leader and
one of the biggest businessmen of Armenia, Gagik Tsarukian honestly
pays taxes and has no connection with shady economy. Vardan Bostanjian,
member of Bargavach Hayastan Board, professor of YSU economic faculty,
gave assurance at the March 22 press conference. As a proof the
latter mentioned the circumstance that the Armenian authorities have
instituted no criminal case to G. Tsarukian.
Asked why Tsarukian is not among the first persons on the list of
the biggest tax-payers of Armenia, Bostanjian said that he has not
gone deep into the details of Bargavach Hayastan Chairman's financial
affairs. Not refuting G. Tsarukian's monopoly position in some spheres,
V. Bostanjian said that economic entities should pursue profit and if
the country's legislation does not suspend it, they have the right to
increase their profits through monopolies. The Bargavach Hayastan Board
member stated that monopolization is one of the most serious problems
existing in the country today and the party "is full of resolution of
fighting this phenomenon." In his words, the current legislation is
not efficient in the issue of fighting monopoly and its reforming is a
matter of time. V. Bostanjian assured that Bargavach Hayastan Chairman
and another figures of the party "are ready to renounce their wealth"
for the sake of society as soon as they come to power. V. Bostanjian
also expressed the hope that if Bargavach Hayastan comes to power it
will implement certain programs, which will permit G. Tsarukian to
reduce the amounts of charity implemented by it. "I do not admit that
people should be feeded," Bargavach Hayastan Board member stated. In
his words, G. Tsarukian gives not "food" but seeds to people, for
growing which a man should do certain work.
