ADVOCATE: CRIMINAL CASE WILL BE FILED IN MOSCOW ON FIGHT BETWEEN AZERBAIJANIS AND ARMENIANS

    Trend News Agency, Azerbaijan
    May 4 2007

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / "A criminal case will be
filed of Agaly Alishov, who received gunshot wounds during a violent
fight occurring between Azerbaijani and Armenian youth at the end of
today's festive event held in the Moscow-based Russian University of
Friendship of People," informed Alishov's Advocate, Namik Azimov,
on 4 May. He added that an advocate was hired for Alishov after
    the incident.

Azimov said that the case has not yet been filed. According to him,
initial investigations are being held by police in Moscow. "According
to Russian law, the criminal case may be filed within ten days after
the incident and I think that in this case, this will happen," he said.

Azimov stressed that after the conflict, five young people in
possession of firearms were detained. One of them is Armenian,
the others Chechen and representatives of other nations of South
Caucasus. The weapons have been confiscated and the young people have
been released, but they are kept under control. A criminal case will
be filed against the suspect who fired the gun. The bullet taken from
the leg of Alishov has already been sent for examination.

The Advocate added that Alishov's parents visited him in Moscow on
4 May. His condition is satisfactory.

The fight has occurred between Azerbaijani and Armenian youth at
the end of today's festive event being held in the Moscow-based
Russian University of Friendship of People. Even during the
arrangement, organized in the Russian University, Armenians provoked
young Azerbaijani people to fight several times. After seeing how
Armenians danced, raising the flag of the un-recognized self-proclaimed
separatist regime of Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijani students forewarned
their Armenian university mates to stop. In addition, Azerbaijani
students then forewarned both officers of the corresponding security
agencies of the Russian capital and the directorship of the University
about the illegitimacy and provocative nature of the statements and
actions of the Armenians. Armenians, for their part, brutally ignoring
the requests and calls made by Azerbaijani students and distributing
Anti-Azerbaijan literature amongst students of the University, faced
a decisive protest from Azerbaijanis. Agaly Alishov received a gunshot
    wound during fight.
