THE CONGRATULATORY LETTER OF HIS HOLINESS ARAM I
TO THE NEWLY ELECTED PRESIDENT OF FRANCE,
HIS EXCELLENCY NICHOLAS SARKOZY

Dear Mr. President,
It is with particular joy that we received news of your election as
President of the Republic of France. We welcome your election and
congratulate you on this occasion from the headquarters of the Armenian
Catholicosate of Cilicia, in Antelias, Lebanon.
As you well know, religious, cultural, social and political ties have bound
the French and Armenian nations together since centuries. This relationship
further developed during the Cilician Kingdom of Armenian history and have
evolved into a contemporary friendship based on shared values.
We have high regard for the strong stance of the French nation and
government towards human rights issues, and in this context, towards the
recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Being familiar with your thoughts on
this issue, we are confident that you will continue on the same path based
on the principles of justice and peace.
We wish you success in your mission.

Nous avons reçu, avec une joie particulière, la nouvelle de
votre élection comme Président de la République Française. A cette occasion,
nous vous prions d'agréer nos meilleures félicitations du Saint Siège du
Catholicosat Arménien de Cilicie, Antélias, Liban.
Pendant des siècles, des liens religieux, culturels, sociaux et
politiques ont existé entre nos deux peuples français et arménien. Ces liens
se sont approfondis et intensifiés particulièrement pendant le Royaume
Arménien de Cilicie (10e - 14e Siècles) et se sont traduits aujourd'hui en
une amitié basée sur des valeurs communes.
Nous avons toujours hautement souligné l'apport et l'appui de la
France et du peuple Français dans le domaine des Droits de l'Homme, et
surtout dans le contexte de la Reconnaissance du Génocide Arménien.
Vu notre connaissance et appréciation de vos prises de positions
à cet égard, nous sommes convaincus que vous continuerez dans votre
engagement pour la justice et la paix dans ce monde déchiré par l'injustice
et les conflits.
