YOUTH PARTY CHAIRMAN WARNS OF PLOT DESIGNED TO DESTABILIZE ARMENIA

    ARMENPRESS
    May 09 2007

YEREVAN, MAY 9, ARMENPRESS: Sarkis Asatrian, the chairman of the
Youth Party of Armenia, claimed today that 'external forces have
hatched out a plot to jeopardize Armenia's security and stability."

Speaking to a news conference in Yerevan with Andrey Razin, a member of
the Russian parliament, he said this 'mission' was assigned to domestic
political parties, which would try to destabilize the situation in
the country in the wake of May 12 parliamentary elections regardless
    of the vote returns.

He, particularly, pointed out the Orinats Yerkir party of ex-parliament
chairman Arthur Baghdasarian and the Impeachment alliance, which he
said would try to endanger Armenia's sovereignty.

Asatrian questioned their assertions that they enjoy a substantial
popular support, saying they would try after the election to stage '
an ugly performance, engineered to undermine Armenia's international
    image.

Asatrian said he received the information about the alleged
anti-government actions from what he described as 'a closed source."

"We are confident that the elections will be held in a transparent
manner, they will be clean and fair," he said adding that his party
stands for deeper integration with Russia.

Razin for his part argued that Armenia's relationships with Russia
are contingent largely on the outcome of the May 12 elections.

"I would like to thank, on behalf of all members of the Russian
parliament, the government of Armenia, its parliament and the entire
population for ignoring the provocations which some western countries
have plotted against former Soviet republics," he said.

Razin described Armenia as Russia's most 'loyal' partner in the
Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS), saying Russia hopes
that strategic and allied relations of the two countries will continue
    into future.
